THE ALLEGHENY MOUNTAINS are noted for vast forests that go on forever, which should be no surprise since the state receives over 100 inches of snow and 40 inches of rainfall every year. When compared to our dry California climate the extent of moisture fed greenery is both striking and beautiful.
Nestled in the folds of this rolling landscape is the community of State College, home of Penn State University -- an outstanding academic institution famous for its college football teams. Who hasn't heard of the continuing success of coach Joe Paterno and the Nittany Lions? For over 60 years under Coach Paterno they won national acclaim and competed in dozens of college bowl championships.
Normally, you would expect a college town to be engulfed with hustle-bustle activity, but the borough of State College is actually an easy going place. Lots of small quaint shops and specialty stores with so many friendly people.
