CROSSING AMERICA I've found that all states are not created equal -- at least in their size -- and so the time I spend in each state varies widely. Departing California I spent a long 4 weeks in the Nevada desert but only 2 weeks in Utah, two months crossing Wyoming and Nebraska but just 3 weeks traversing Iowa. Now in Illinois, there's just a week before I leave the state. That's hardly time to say hello. Even the highway signs suggest it's time to move on!
My I-80 route carries me across the Illinois heartland thus avoiding the Chicago metropolitan area. I'm sure I would have enjoyed lingering around the city exploring its charms, but I'll have to save that for another visit.
Still, it would have been great to take in a game at Wrigley Field... However, true to my original plan, I'm heading east toward Gary, Indiana, and the rising sun.
