THOSE LYRICS from a popular western song accurately describe my current "location" as we begin 2017. Amarillo, Texas, is where I find myself on New Year's Day as I return across the country. Through its convenient location within the Texas panhandle in the country's midsection, Amarillo has become a natural distribution center known for ranches and railroads, beef and blizzards, and prides itself as the Gateway to the Southwest. It's good to rediscover that "western" scenery once again.
NEW YEARS NOTE. Taking a personal inventory, my original 2016 annual fitness goal to walk across the country was insufficient so I added another 1800 miles returning back through Texas! My monthly fitness summary (below) shows 4,722 workout miles -- and, including other supplementary walks, that's 100 miles per week. Wow, I didn't realize I had that in me 😳!
Now the year is over, I find myself 1600 miles from the end of my journey with a desire to finish the task. Of course, there is a reward each day, but I need to bring this challenge to its conclusion. At this rate it appears I'm looking forward to another four months on the road and beyond that, who knows?
