WHILE HIKING Bixby Park hills I heard a sharp whistle on the trail ahead, and on reaching the summit I was surprised to find two men with a magnificent white headed Bald Eagle.  Not a common sight indeed!  About a quarter mile in the distance I spotted a second couple who were in communication by radio.  Soon a distant whistle sounded as the eagle took off in flight towards them. Its powerful wing beat, sharp talons and beak were awesome... and so intimidating that I kept my distance. But I'm glad I had my iPhone with me to capture the moment.

It's easy to understand how the eagle's aggressive character inspired the founding fathers to make the bird our national symbol.
