HAWAII IS KNOWN for its variety of colorful flowers that are well distributed all over the island. Thanks to the abundance of sun, rain, humidity and rich soil, floral displays are an unexpected surprise everywhere -- along any road, beach, park or path.  So it's handy to carry a camera or camera-phone when you're out and about. Always!  Some of the varieties we recognized included the hibiscus, anthurium, bougainvillea, jasmine, ginger, impatiens, lantana, and heliconia.  And that's just a few...

The exotic variety of color enhances the Hawaiian cultural experience.  Who wouldn't be pleased to receive a fragrant lei of beautiful orchids or plumeria?  Actually, you might be surprised to know that Hawaii's state flower isn't the exotic orchid, but the more common yellow hibiscus.
