DESPITE THE DROUGHT we are carefully tending our garden and enjoying its rewards. Our cymbidium orchids are beginning to show off long blossom spikes, surviving mostly on excess rinse water from the kitchen wash.

Our citrus plants struggled to survive the frosty evenings, but with constant mulching, feeding, and "cloud cover" applications we've been fortunate to produce a crop of sweet juicy fruit.  A delicious healthy addition to those winter breakfast meals!

The one drought casualty was our garden lawn which demanded too much of the precious irrigation water.  We reduced our water needs over fifty percent by replacing it with a 'hardscape' artificial turf.  No more lawn mowing or watering, yet we still have a pleasant field of green throughout the season!

We're constantly seeking ways to make retirement life productive, self-sustaining with low maintenance, and beautiful.  After all there's no place like home with all its pleasures!
