ON THE WAY HOME from our eastern Oregon vacation, we detoured into the Cascades to revisit Crater Lake, a favorite family vacation spot.  Our plan was to see that beautiful blue lake in the volcano caldera before returning to California.  But Mother Nature had other plans -- an early season storm that dumped snow on the high peaks and closed the road to the park.

So I ask you, what happened to Autumn?  Where's the golden brown foliage and falling leaves?   A late summer rainfall was to be expected, but I'm afraid we weren't prepared for SNOW in September.  Still, it was exciting to experience the seasonal change, however sudden, but is it too early to buy those holiday cards?
