ALTHOUGH IT'S FIFTY MILES AWAY, the grand profile of Mount Shasta dominates the valley landscape in all its glory.  From Redding's Red Lion Inn the 14,179 foot volcano squeezes easily under this 12-foot sign, but unfortunately we did not have time to venture closer on this trip.  Darn!


However, if we had driven further north into the foothills, we could have enjoyed a rich assortment of meadow wildflowers growing in the shadow of Shasta.  On previous visits, we've enjoyed this colorful sight of springtime with the mountain setting.  Maybe next time...
