Pelican Take Off

There’s an interesting habit displayed by the white pelicans that live here in the bay lagoons.  They move around and feed in flocks using a mysterious silent signal.  Without prior warning they will rise from the water en mass only to fly a short distance to the next site where they reassemble.  It's unclear who signals these short migrations, but the mass migration makes for great in-flight photos.
